Crisis in Ukraine: an astrological perspective
Disclaimer 1. I’m using Vedic Astrology (sidereal zodiac) and it differs from the widely used Western Astrology (tropical zodiac) as these two systems of astrology are over 24 degrees apart, so the degrees of planets (and sometimes also their sign placements) will be different. Vedic astrology uses the actual positions of celestial bodies while Western Astrology uses their projections from the tropics of the Earth.

MARS AND VENUS ARE AT WAR
Whenever two planets are traveling very close to each other and come within 1 degree from each other, they enter into a planetary war (called “graha yuddha” in sanskrit).
A planetary war can only happen between 5 planets (Jupiter, Saturn, Mars, Venus and Mercury) with each planet representing one of the 5 elements: Ether (Jupiter), Air (Saturn), Fire (Mars), Water (Venus) and Earth (Mercury). The luminaries (the Sun & the Moon) and the Karmic Nodes (Rahu & Ketu) do not engage in a planetary war.
Around 00:30 a.m. (Moscow time) on February 12th, 2022 when Mars reached 19 degrees 16 minutes of Sagittarius in Purva-Ashadha nakshatra coming less than 1 degree behind Venus who was at 20 degrees 16 minutes of the same sign and nakshatra (see the image below), they entered into a planetary war.
Due to the fact that Venus was recently retrograde (from December 19th, 2021 until January 29th, 2022), it is moving slower than usual, only starting to pick its speed back up, so Mars and Venus will be traveling pretty much at the same speed and very close to each other for a whole month ending their war on March 13th, 2022.
VENUS AND MARS ARE LIKE UKRAINE AND RUSSIA
Venus represents a peaceful attitude (it gets exalted in Pisces, which is the sign of Peace) while Mars represents a warrior ready to enter into a battle and fight. So, naturally, we can say that astrologically Venus stands for Ukraine and Mars stands for Russia.
Coincidentally enough, the planetary war between Venus and Mars began in Sagittarius which is the sign of the battlefield.
Purva-ashadha nakshatra is known for the declaration of war and it’s translated as “the Undefeatable One”. The constellation of Purva-Ashadha is ruled by Venus, so it again hints that the war agenda is related to Venus (Ukraine).
Adolf Hilter had 3 planets in Purva-Ashadha in his chart: Jupiter, Ketu and that which is the most important and very telling — the natal Moon.
The natural planetary relationship between Venus and Mars is neutral, they are neither friends, nor enemies, but they do represent the opposing elements: Venus is the water element while Mars is the fire element (heat). What happens when water is heated? It boils and evaporates. Or if there’s too much water, fire is extinguished. Water is emotion, feelings. Fire is energy, aggression, anger and hate. We can see that one side is very emotional and upset (Ukraine), the other is in a warrior mode (Russia).
Sanjay Rath says, quote “When a planetary war is happening in the same nakshatra [constellation], the battle is not about a commodity, because the commodities are indicated by the zodiac signs, it’s about something intellectual, it is about a thought, it is about a feeling, it is about an emotion”. Since the planetary war between Mars and Venus began with them being in the same sign and nakshatra, the war is about a commodity as well as a feeling/emotion. Hint. Hint.
The reason why the one-month-long planetary war between Venus and Mars is a significant astrological event is: all planets move at a different speed, only 5 of them can enter into a planetary war, and the war usually doesn’t last for more than 1–3 days.
For example, on March 2nd, 2022 around 1:00 a.m. (Moscow time) Saturn and Mercury also entered into a planetary war coming less than 1 degree from each other, but the war ended after 1 day with them reaching an exact conjunction at 7:29 p.m. on the same day, and coming out of the war around 2 p.m. on March 3rd, 2022.
The natural planetary relationship between Saturn (the Western countries) and Mercury (the Northern countries) is friendly, so this signifies a conflict or a quarrel between allies. Since Saturn and Mercury’s exact conjunction degree (24 degrees 51 minutes of Capricorn) does not trigger any particular degree in Ukraine’s chart, it might be irrelevant for Ukraine and concern other countries.
Next, Mars and Saturn will enter into another short-lived planetary war on April 3rd around 5 p.m. (Moscow time), reaching an exact conjunction on April 5th at 4:45 a.m. with their planetary war ending on April 6th around 5 p.m. But the exact conjunction of Mars and Saturn will be happening directly on Ukraine’s natal Moon degree at 28 degrees of Capricorn) and I will cover it in more detail below because I believe this will be the peak of this turbulent period, especially for Ukraine. Mars and Saturn are natural enemies, and this is a war between Russia (Mars) and the Western countries (Saturn).
In deciding which planet wins the war, there is a divide of opinions among astrologers: some say that a planet with a lower degree wins the planetary war, others believe that a planet with a higher degree wins. The classic books on astrology have a separate view. I personally use “the lesser degree point” for the win.
Now we will go back to the very beginning.
EXACT CONJUNCTION OF MARS AND VENUS TRIGGERS THE WAR
On February 16th at approximately 16:21 (Moscow time), Venus and Mars reached an exact conjunction at 22 degrees 42 minutes of Sagittarius in Purva-Ashadha Nakshatra (see the image below).
The closeness of planets involved in a planetary war signifies the intensity of conflict. The closer they come to each other, the more intense the planetary war gets. As Venus and Mars were approaching the exact conjunction, this is when things started to heat up, erupting 5 days later on February 21th, 2022 when Putin officially recognized the DPR and the LPR as independent states, and quickly after, on February 24th, launched a special military operation in Ukraine.
The triggering point is that Ukraine’s natal chart has Sagittarius Ascendent and Rahu (the North Node of the Moon) is sitting right on the Ascendent at 22 degrees 56 minutes of Sagittarius in Purva-Ashadha nakshatra. The exact conjunction of Venus and Mars on February 16th was happening right on Ukraine’s Ascendent degree and natal Rahu’s degree (see the chart below), indicating a major activation and events to follow.
Mars-Venus degrees (on Feb 16th): 22 degrees 42 minutes of Sagittarius
Ukraine’s natal Rahu degrees: 22 degrees 56 minutes of Sagittarius
Ukraine’s Ascendent degrees: 21 degrees 39 minutes of Sagittarius
Whenever a planet in transit comes close to any natal planet’s position and degrees, it is an activation point of some sort, especially if it’s passing over a natal planet as a part of a significant astrological event like an exact conjunction of planets/ change from retrograde to direct motion and vice versa/a solar or lunar eclipse, etc. It can be either positive or negative depending on the chart.
On February 26th at around 12:30 pm (Moscow time), Mars moved into the sign of Capricorn with Venus quickly catching up with him and entering Capricorn on February 27th at 7:15 am. Both Mars and Venus moved into Uttara-Ashadha nakshatra.
Capricorn is the sign of exaltation of Mars. Mars is extremely strong and powerful in Capricorn, but it is being held back by Saturn (who has been in the sign of Capricorn since the beginning of 2020). As the ruler of Capricorn, Saturn represents the punishing force: all the sanctions and restrictions that are being put on Russia and Belarus.
Capricorn is associated with the Southern direction in the natural zodiac where Sun is in zenit and the most bright, so the events taking place in Ukraine are now widely covered, talked about and the absolute center of everyone’s attention.
Also, Capricorn is the sign of governments, systems and structures, and the war did get political with so many countries and governments being involved and confronting Russia.
Uttara-Ashadha, like the previous nakshatra Purva-Ashadha, has to do with warfare but more with standing ground during the battle until the end of the war. It translates as “the Ultimate Victory”.
ANOTHER EXACT CONJUNCTION OF MARS AND VENUS TRIGGERS AGAIN
On March 6th, at around 11:18 am (Moscow time) an exact conjunction of Mars and Venus will happen again at 5 degrees 55 minutes of Capricorn in Uttara-Ashadha nakshatra.
And again it will be very close in degrees to another natal planet in Ukraine’s chart: this time it is the natal Saturn who is sitting at 7 degrees 47 minutes of Capricorn (see the chart below).
Mars-Venus degrees (on March 6th): 5 degrees 55 minutes of Capricorn
Ukraine’s natal Saturn degrees: 7 degrees 47 minutes of Capricorn
I expect a significant event related to the Russia-Ukraine war to take place around March 6th, 2022. It can happen a few days before or after.
P.S. During the time of exact conjunction of Mars and Venus on March 6th, the degrees and minutes are 3 number fives: 555. It must be a sign for something. Fives numerologically signify CHANGE, TRIALS AND TRIBULATIONS. It’s a testing time for Ukraine for sure.
It might be also hinting at the sign of Leo which is the 5th zodiac sign. Leo represents power and is ruled by the Sun which represents the government. A change in government or in power?
THE END OF PLANETARY WAR BETWEEN MARS AND VENUS
The planetary war between Mars and Venus will end on March 13th around 8:30 a.m., when Venus starts getting ahead of Mars by more than 1 degree (Venus at 12 degrees 8 minutes of Capricorn and Mars at 11 degrees and 4 minutes of Capricorn) in Shravana Nakshatra. The constellation of Shravana has to do with the ear and listening, so possibly around that date Russia and Ukraine will be able to hear each other and negotiations between these two countries will lead to a peaceful resolution.
The planetary war between Venus and Mars will end, but yet another war between Saturn and Mars will commence. I believe the Saturn-Mars war will represent the conflict between the Western countries (Saturn) and Russia (Mars) which will directly affect Ukraine.
*Check if you have any natal planets sitting in your sidereal chart at 28 degrees of Capricorn or at 28 degrees of Cancer ( it’s the opposite sign).
THE EXACT CONJUNCTION OF SATURN AND MARS SERVES AS YET ANOTHER TRIGGER
As I mentioned earlier, Mars and Saturn will enter into a planetary war on April 3rd around 5 p.m. (Moscow time), reaching an exact conjunction on April 5th at 4:45 a.m. (Moscow time) at 28 degrees 15 minutes of Capricorn in Dhanishta nakshatra.
The 28th degree in which Mars and Saturn will conjoin is the exaltation degree of Mars. Mars here is the utmost strength!
The exact conjunction of Mars and Saturn will be happening on the exact degree of Ukraine’s natal Moon which is sitting at 28 degrees 38 minutes of Capricorn!
Mars-Saturn conjunction degree (on April 5th): 28 degrees 15 minutes of Capricorn
Ukraine’s natal Moon degree: 28 degrees 38 minutes of Capricorn
This is a huge activation point as it is happening right in the middle of Ukraine’s Sade-sati period (7,5 years of intense karmic purification led by Saturn). If you are from Ukraine you should research the topic of Sade-sati to help you understand what your country is going through and where it is all leading.
When Saturn in transit is passing over the exact degree of the natal Moon, it is the hardest and most transformational period of Sade-sati during which the biggest amounts of karma (=ignorance) are being burned. I have been through the peak of Sade-sati myself 3 years ago when Saturn in transit was passing close to my natal Moon degree, I know what I’m talking about. It was hell.
In Ukraine’s case, it is not only Saturn pressing the natal Moon, it’s the two great malefics Saturn and Mars, and Mars is exalted!
The Moon is quite a special planet in Ukraine’s chart as it rules the 8th house: the most intense and malefic house in a horoscope: it deals with transformation and change, death and rebirth, chaos and loss of control, sudden events.
The 8th house is where all the karma of a nation is stored. By both Saturn and Mars conjoining on the exact degree of the Moon which rules the karma of a nation and passing over it, shows a major purification from karma. But burning karma is never pleasant or easy.
In the charts of nations, the Moon represents the people. The Ukrainian people are the ones who will be hit the most by this.
The 8th house also deals with other countries’ money, and because the Moon lords the 8th house and is sitting in the 2nd of resources, food and wealth, it connects those two houses. Many countries will probably chip in and try to help by sending humanitarian help, money, and military equipment.
I have also noticed that the Moon rules the Mrityu Sahama, a sensitive point in a chart which deals with death. Plus, the exact conjunction of Saturn and Mars is happening in Dhanishta nakshatra which carries the themes of death: in the story of 8 vasus (deities of this constellation) who got cursed by sage Vasishtha, 7 brothers had to die within the first year of being born on Earth while one had to live to experience the curse fully (this was famous Bhishma in Mahabharata war). Dhanishta, as well as 2 Ashadhas (Purva and Uttara), deals with warfare.
The Mars-Saturn planetary war will end on April 6th around 5 p.m., and we can expect the conflict to start slowly moving towards the end after that date.
THE ECLIPSE SEASON BRINGS THE GRAND FINALE!
The transit of Jupiter in the sign of Aquarius (since April 5th, 2021) has been the absolute worst for Ukraine, as it was passing over Ukraine’s 3rd house which is a maraka (death) house for Jupiter, destroying the houses Jupiter rules in Ukraine’s chart: Ascendent and the 4th house of motherland.
Being the most benefic planet, when Jupiter moves into Pisces (the sign of Peace) on April 13th, 2022 it will sit in the 4th house of motherland for Ukraine and really improve the situation for the better.
The day before, on April 12th, 2022 the Karmic nodes, Rahu and Ketu will change signs (I’m using Mean nodes) with Rahu moving into Aries and Ketu into Libra, shifting the karmic vector in a different direction. Aries and Libra are movable signs, we can expect a lot of movement, changes and shifts! Swift! We might all be in awe of how quickly things can change!
On April 27th, 2022 Venus will be joining Jupiter in the sign of Pisces (again, the sign of peace). Jupiter and Venus are the most auspicious planets, so by the time both Venus and Jupiter shift to the sign of Pisces, we can definitely expect peace to come. Venus will be moving through Ukraine’s 4th house, and it is the most comfortable placement for Venus, as it gets directional strength in the 4th house. So, the land of Ukraine will know peace. Jupiter and Venus will make sure of it when they enter Pisces. They will be in a planetary war when they get within 1 degree from each other, but their main agenda is peace, so I see it as a positive thing.
On April 28th, 2022, Saturn will move into Aquarius. Saturn represents the status-quo, things staying the same. Whenever Saturn moves signs, there is a change and a shake in the status-quo. This is what the world needs, as we all have been stuck since the beginning of 2020, when Saturn entered the sign of Capricorn.
Once the Karmic nodes change signs on April 12th, 2022, the solar and lunar eclipses will also move to the Aries/Libra axis.
The 1st Solar Eclipse of the Aries/Libra eclipse series will take place on April 30th, 2022 at 21:45 p.m. (Moscow time) during the New Moon with Rahu conjoining the Sun and the Moon. At the time of the eclipse, Jupiter and Venus occupy the same degree (3 degrees of Pisces) which stands for their united mission of bringing peace.
The solar eclipse will be happening right on Ukraine’s Arudha Lagna which represents the country’s image, the world perceives Ukraines and the people of Ukraine, so there will definitely be change in that.
Check if you have any natal planets near the degrees of Rahu/Ketu/the Sun/the Moon at the time of the solar eclipse (see the image). The eclipses bring the most changes when they trigger important points in a natal chart (the natal Sun/ the natal Moon/the Ascendent/the Ascendent Ruler/Arudha Lagna, etc).
Two weeks after the solar, comes the lunar eclipse on a Full Moon when the Sun and the Moon are right opposite each other, with the luminaries close to one of the Nodes as Rahu and Ketu are always opposite each other. The lunar eclipse will take place on May 16th, 2022 at 4:32 a.m. (Moscow time).
Similarly, check if you have any natal planets near the degrees of Rahu/Ketu/the Sun/the Moon at the time of the lunar eclipse (see the image).
So, the way I see the upcoming events: March and April will be very difficult and turbulent for Ukraine (especially around April 5th, 2022), but a peaceful time will come about at the end of April or at the beginning of May. Let’s just suck it up until then by simply doing what each of us feels is right.
